New traffic pattern for Lake Elbert Trail could affect Polk State Winter Haven commuters

As construction continues for the Lake Elbert Trail, a new traffic pattern is in place that may affect those commuting to or from the Polk State College Winter Haven Campus.
Traffic will be one way on Lake Elbert Drive Northeast from Drexel Avenue Northeast around the north side of Lake Elbert to 10th Street Northeast. This pattern, which is south of the Winter Haven Campus, is expected to remain in effect until the early parts of summer 2025, according to the City of Winter Haven.
Lake Elbert Drive Northeast from Avenue G Northeast to Avenue A – southwest of the Winter Haven Campus – will remain closed for construction. This includes at the intersection of Avenue G Northeast.
In addition to a lakeside trail that runs alongside Lake Elbert, the Lake Elbert Trail Project includes new water, sewer, and stormwater utilities. The changing traffic pattern is intended to keep drivers safe as construction is completed.
Motorists are urged to follow detour signs, plan their route accordingly, and to leave earlier than usual to give themselves extra time. For more information about the project, visit the City of Winter Haven’s Lake Elbert Trail project page.
