Associate in Science in Nursing – Generic Option

The Generic Option of the Polk State College Associate in Science in Nursing degree program is a limited-admission, pre-licensure program designed for an individual without a prior healthcare license, but it can also be used for a person with a license who does not prefer to take the accelerated Transition Option.

The information provided below gives an overview of how to apply for the Nursing Program. For information related to the full health requirements and additional program specifications, additional information is provided in the Polk State College Catalog/Student Handbook under the Associate in Science in Nursing–Generic Option.

Note:
Starting with the application cycle in Spring 2025 for the cohort that will begin classes in the Fall 2025 Semester, Polk State College’s Nursing Program will require  BSC 2085C – Human Anatomy and Physiology IBSC 2086C – Human Anatomy and Physiology II and one of the following math courses: MAC 1105 – College Algebra, MGF 1106/MGF 1130 – Topics in Mathematics, or STA 2023 – Introduction to Probability and Statistics.

Applicants will need to have completed both courses with a letter grade of at least a or better at the time of their application. Additionally, only one repeat of each course will be considered for evaluation of admission into the program.

Note: Beginning with the spring 2023 application cycle, BSC 2086C Human Anatomy and Physiology II (with lab) has been added as a required prerequisite that must be completed prior to matriculation and start of Nursing Program courses. This change has been made to better facilitate student schedules and to ensure that students have the appropriate content knowledge from prerequisite courses for program success.
